AFLAS Fluoroelastomers

AFLAS® is a unique fluoropolymer elastomers based upon an alternating copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene (TFE/P). This high-performance fluoropolymer elastomers, when properly formulated, can be used to fabricate o-rings, gaskets, seals, packings, and fluoroelastomer sheets possessing several unique properties. AFLAS® is superior to many fluoropolymer elastomers in demanding applications.

  1. Excellent heat resistance with continuous service temperature capability of 230°C
  2. Chemical resistance including resistance to strong acids and bases, making it ideal for hydrocarbon-resistant seals.
  3. High electrical resistivity.
  4. Excellent oil resistance.
  5. This versatile fluoropolymer elastomers can be formed into various shapes, including fluoroelastomer sheets.

NOTE: AFLAS® fluoroelastomer sheets must be formulated with fillers, curatives, and other agents. Properly formulated and cured AFLAS® products deliver outstanding results in many operating environments. Results using AFLAS® fluoropolymers may vary depending upon the fabricator’s formulation, manufacturing process, and proper application to the operating environment.

Applications

Typical industrial applications for AFLAS include: oil and gas, food processing, nuclear power generation, marine development, chemical manufacturing/processing, automotive fluoroelastomer seals, electronics, machinery, hydraulics, and more. While related materials like Viton fluoroelastomer for spacecraft are used in extreme aerospace environments, AFLAS® is generally positioned for challenging terrestrial industrial uses.
