The Chemours Company (Chemours) (NYSE: CC), a global chemistry company with leading market positions in titanium technologies, fluoroproducts, and chemical solutions, today proudly announced the winners of the 2018 Plunkett Awards.

From uses in airplanes, automobiles, and consumer electronics to components in life-saving medical equipment and the U.S. military, fluoropolymers have provided material solutions for manufacturers globally for the last 80 years. These awards recognize the innovation and value of products, technologies, and applications enabled by Chemours portfolio of fluoropolymers.

The Global Plunkett Grand Prize was awarded to W. L. Gore and Associates, Inc., Newark, Del., for high-temperature capacitors. Gore’s unique film technology enables capacitors with over five times the energy density of traditional PTFE capacitors, while enabling their use in high-temperature applications not previously possible. Global Plunkett Honorable Mention is Perma Pure LLC, Lakewood, NJ, for the development of technologies that utilize Nafion™ membranes in critical gas monitoring applications, such as samples lines for neonatal respiratory monitoring and air emissions monitoring.

The awards are named after Dr. Roy Plunkett who discovered fluoropolymers 80 years ago. First Prize and Honorable Mention winners in the Americas; Europe, Middle East and Africa; and Asia Pacific were also named.

“The Plunkett Awards recognize our customers and their commitment to using the power of chemistry to create industry-defining solutions to many of society’s most complex and evolving needs,” said Paul Kirsch, president, Chemours Fluoroproducts. “Businesses must innovate, driving the development of more sustainable, higher performing products to keep pace with a rapidly changing world. At Chemours, we’re proud to partner with our customers to deliver innovative solutions that address the needs of today and the challenges of tomorrow.”

The awards recognize advancements in products and applications across the Chemours fluoropolymer portfolio, including Teflon™ fluoropolymers, coatings, fabric protector, and additives; Krytox™ lubricants and Viton™ fluoroelastomers; and Nafion™ ion exchange materials.

Entries were judged by a panel of regional experts who evaluated the submissions for their degree of innovation, sustainability impact, breadth of use, and commercial significance. All award winners will receive donations that will go to universities of their choice – the Global Grand Prize Winner and Honorable Mention will receive $10,000 and $7,500 respectively.
