As reported by Wiley Online Library in their article “Characterization of Mold Fouling During Elastomer Injection Molding,” the characterization and origins of mold fouling in elastomer injection molding have been explored in detail. The study presents results for nitrile rubber and fluoroelastomer compounds using a variety of analytical techniques such as light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, along with surface-energy measurements through the sessile drop method.

A specially designed mold tool with interchangeable cavity inserts enabled researchers to study the effects of different metal surface treatments on mold fouling. This comprehensive investigation helps to better understand the factors that contribute to mold fouling, which can impact the quality and efficiency of elastomer injection molding processes.

By leveraging in-depth research and innovative technologies, the aim is to enhance the reliability and performance of elastomer products, ensuring higher quality and efficiency in production.
