As outlined in the Viton™ article “Viton™ Fluoroelastomers for High-Voltage Cables”, the global move toward renewable energy and electric vehicles (EVs) has brought about a need for new materials that can withstand higher voltages, increased heat, and long maintenance intervals. EVs generate far more thermal and electrical stress than traditional vehicles, and as a result, the demand for high-performance elastomers is greater than ever.
Lithium-ion batteries used in EVs can generate intense heat, which must be managed to ensure passenger safety and system longevity. At the same time, because EVs require less frequent maintenance, the components used—especially in high-voltage systems—must deliver long-term reliability without frequent inspection or replacement.
