Tecnoflon® Fluoroelastomers & Perfluoroelastomers
Tecnoflon® Fluoroelastomers & Perfluoroelastomers Syensqo Tecnoflon® is a family of high-performance O-rings, fluoroelastomers (FKM) and perfluoroelastomers (FFKM), developed to meet the most demanding sealing and chemical resistance elastomers requirements. These synthetic rubber and fluoropolymer elastomers are commonly used in O-rings, gaskets, seals, and other molded or extruded products where exposure to heat, fuels, aggressive chemicals, or harsh environments is unavoidable. The material’s advanced chemical resistance elastomers properties make it ideal for critical applications.
Tecnoflon® fluorinated rubber compounds are categorized under the ASTM D1418 and ISO 1629 designation of FKM, while Tecnoflon® perfluoroelastomers are commonly classified under FFKM. The exceptional performance as a high-temperature sealing material is derived from their composition. Fluoroelastomers in this family, representing advanced fluorinated rubber compounds, include copolymers of hexafluoropropylene (HFP) and vinylidene fluoride (VDF), terpolymers with tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), and advanced perfluoroelastomer grades containing perfluoromethylvinylether (PMVE) and other specialty monomers. The resulting chemical resistance elastomers ensure long-term integrity in harsh media. Manufacturers frequently use these materials for injection molded fluoroelastomer parts. Fluorine content ranges from about 66% in standard FKMs to over 72% in high-end FFKM grades, which provides superior thermal stability and the highest level of chemical resistance elastomers among fluorinated rubber compounds.

Types
There are several main families of Tecnoflon® fluoroelastomers and perfluoroelastomers:
- Tecnoflon® FKM Copolymers (VF2/HFP): General-purpose sealing, automotive and aerospace fuels, lubricants, and hydraulic systems. Nominal polymer fluorine content: ~66%.
- Tecnoflon® FKM Terpolymers (VF2/HFP/TFE): Designed for chemical process plants, power-utility seals, gaskets, and oxygenated automotive fuels. Nominal polymer fluorine content: ~68–70%.
- Tecnoflon® Specialty FKM Grades: Variants for improved low-temperature flexibility, enhanced base resistance, and peroxide-curable options for specific environments.
- Tecnoflon® FFKM / PFR Perfluoroelastomers: Ultra-high performance elastomers with the highest fluorine content, delivering outstanding resistance to aggressive chemicals, steam, strong oxidizers, and extreme high-temperature environments. Specialty grades include high-purity and semiconductor-grade versions.
Applications
The performance of Tecnoflon® fluoroelastomers and perfluoroelastomers depends on the specific base polymer and compounding system used. Applications span a wide range of industries where durability and resistance to extreme conditions are critical.
- Automotive: O-rings, shaft seals, gaskets, and turbocharger seals that resist fuels, oils, and high operating temperatures.
- Aerospace & Defense: Fuel system and hydraulic seals requiring exceptional reliability under extreme conditions.
- Semiconductor & High-Purity Processing: O-rings and seals in ultra-pure gas and fluid systems, where cleanliness and chemical resistance are paramount.
- Industrial & Chemical Processing: Seals, gaskets, and valve components used in reactors, pumps, and chemical transport systems exposed to aggressive acids, bases, and solvents.
- Oil & Gas / Energy: Downhole and subsea sealing solutions where high pressure, high temperature, sour gas, and harsh media demand perfluoroelastomer performance.
- Food, Pharmaceutical & Healthcare: Seals and gaskets in processing and sterilization equipment where regulatory compliance, purity, and chemical resistance are required.
